TrueNeutralTV

Tabletop live-streams with an emphasis on immersion and narrative using a rules-lite reaction-based combat system.

Kate, The Storymaster

After being introduced to tabletop, Kate immediately saw an opportunity to shape a homebrew system with a focus on immersion, doing away with components that added out-of-character downtime.

She now brings her passion for storytelling and unique tabletop approach to live streaming, hoping to inspire others to try out the playstyle.

Playstyle and Focus

Immersion

It means everything. Without it, we wouldn’t believe we were someone else, somewhere else, and that helps create memorable stories. Some things Kate does to help with immersion are:

  • Run a rules-lite, reaction-based system to facilitate dynamic and constantly engaging combat.
  • Player turns are typically shorter to depict near-simultaneous actions. Kate will call for additional actions or reactions based on the flow of combat.
  • Player movement in combat is more free-form and generalized instead of using a grid layout.
  • Metagaming is entirely avoided. This includes DM descriptions directed toward one player being ignored by other players.

Realism

Kate uses elements of realism to create a grounded foundation for her settings, in order to emphasize and elevate fantastical elements.

  • Combat is gritty, fast-paced, and often chaotic. Players need to know their weapon, keep their wits about them, and remember their role if they want to survive.
  • Settings are typically low fantasy with magical items being rare and precious.
  • NPCs are nuanced and social consequences should be carefully considered.
